 Your work is beautiful Shelia! I have a high allergic reaction to nickel...and sometimes even sterling silver. How do people with allergies do with your earrings?
Sheila Wissner:
I haven't had anyone mention having an allergic reaction after wearing my jewelry but a few people have said they can't buy my sterling jewelry because of an allergy. I'm not sure if they're really allergic to sterling or if they have worn white metal jewelry they thought was sterling but actually was a nickel alloy. Nickel allergies are fairly common.
I only use sterling silver (which is 92.5% pure silver plus 7.5% copper for strength), fine silver (which is pure silver and therefore softer than sterling) and gold by special order. If you are allergic to nickel and sometimes sterling, it might be that the ear wires that were on the jewelry weren't sterling but were cheaper findings containing some nickel. I use sterling ear wires but could make them in fine silver, too, if someone thought the sterling was a problem.

I am enamored — or should I say — enameled — of my new ring. Very pretty and works with my other silver jewelry.
We apparently have lots in common. I, too, am a journalist, doing page design and copy editing these days.
And I've lived most of my life in Michigan, in Alpena and Houghton, don't you know?
